Week beginning 8th January
Welcome back! Our new Topic is 'Julia Donaldson'. In English this week we have started our 'Letters' Topic which will be based around the story of The Gruffalo! We have listened to the story almost everyday and are beginning to know it off by heart! We have practiced using commas in a list, writing an address, identifying features of a letter and reading woodland animal facts. In Maths we have been adding together two 2-digit numbers by drawing dienes and counting on. In RE we have started our new 'Books' Topic and have explored different types of books and Bible stories. We have also had a cross-curricular RE/Art lesson with Mrs Bryant where we have designed a book cover for our chosen Bible Story. In Art we have designed our sock puppets, please bring in the coloured sock your child needs by Tuesday 16th January, if this is a problem please send in a plain black or white sock for your child to decorate.
Next week will have Part 1 of our WOW Day where we will go on a Gruffalo Hunt!
Week beginning 15th January
In English this week we have written our letters to Julia Donaldson, we will post these on Tuesday! This week in English we have also practiced writing questions. In Maths we have been subtracting using dienes drawings to help us. In RE we have been thinking about the signs and symbols of Mass as well as retelling the story of Baptism. In ICT we have practiced using the Beebots, we pretended we were Beebots too to help us understand the concept! In Art we have started to make our sock puppets, thank you for your donations of socks! We have also have a mini WOW Afternoon this week and went on a Gruffalo hunt, we made clay Gruffalos, listened to the story and had hot chocolate!
On Monday next week we will be going on our WOW Day to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm and looking at some of the animals Julia Donaldson uses in her books!
Week beginning 22nd January
In English this week we have posted our letters to Julia Donaldson, we walked to the postbox to do this! This week in English we have also started our new Topic of 'stories' based on The Ugly Five, we have ordered the story and become really familiar with it. We also made animal masks to help us with our acting next week! In Maths we been adding number bonds within 100 and adding 3 1-digit numbers. In RE we have had our 'Respond' session and thought carefully about the books we have in our lives. In Art we have finished making our sock puppets, they look amazing! We have also been on our WOW Day this week to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm! We loved looking at the animals and exploring!
Week beginning 29th January
In English this week we have become even more familiar with 'The Ugly Five'. We have acted it out using a script, written about how the animals move and have researched our new story animals in a setting of our choice! In Maths we have started our new topic of 'Multiplication & Division' and have been putting objects into equal groups. The language we have been using is this... There are __ equal groups, with __ in each group. There are __ altogether.
In RE we have started our new Topic of 'Thanksgiving', we have thought about ways we can say thankyou in groups and have also retold the story of 'The Last Supper'. In Art we have mastered our sketching skills and have been drawing animals and characters from Julia's books! In Topic we have studied 'Materials' and have been thinking about properties of materials.
Week beginning 4th February
In English this week we have been writing our Animal Stories! They are fantastic, we will write them up and publish them after half term! In Maths we have been grouping, writing multiplication sentences and using arrays. In RE we have been thinking about thankful words and topics and how people can thank one another. In Art we have been painting African sunsets just like the ones in 'The Ugly Five'. ! In Topic we have studied 'Materials' and have been thinking about properties of materials and why they are used for certain jobs! We also learnt that paper was made from trees!

Week beginning 19th February
In English this week we have finished writing our Animal Stories! They are fantastic, we read them to Reception on Friday afternoon! See blow for photos! ! In Maths we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and learning them as multiplication tables! In RE we have started our topic Islam and have learnt about Muslim prayer times. In Art we have been finishing our African sunsets just like the ones in 'The Ugly Five' ! In Topic we have studied 'Animal groups' and have been thinking about which animals belonging in which groups.
We have also had a road safety talk and had our class assembly! We were fantastic!
Week beginning 26th February
In English this week we have started our topic of 'Poetry'. We have looked at 2 Julia Donaldson poems and have performed them, see above for the video! In Maths we have been dividing and sharing into equal groups! In Topic we have studied 'Animal groups' and have been thinking about which animals belonging in which groups and have been thinking about how animal babies grow and change.
We have also enjoyed World Book Day and dressed as our favourite characters! See below for our photos! We have really enjoyed the snow too!
Week beginning 5th March
In English this week we have continued topic of 'Poetry'. We have looked at 'The Food Train' by Julia Donaldson, a poem which has rhythm to sound like a moving train! We worked out we needed syllables to do this and thought about what a syllable was and how we can use syllables to create rhythm. Our own versions are fantastic! In Maths we have been dividing by 5 and 10 and have also started our new Fractions topic, we have looked a halves so far! In Topic we have studied where in the world animals live and why they might live there, next week we will look at habitats more closely!
Week beginning 12th March
In English this week we have continued topic of 'Poetry'. We have looked at 'The Rhythm of Life' by Michael Rosen, a poem which has rhythm and rhyme! We thought about lots of everyday objects and found rhyming words for each of these. Our own versions are fantastic! In Maths we have been recognising and finding quarters and thrids too! We are using counters, bar models and our times table facts to help us! In Topic we've looked at animal habitats and considered why animals might live where they do. In Art we have made moving dragons, they are truly colourful and look brilliant! We've also enjoyed our 'St. Joseph's Day' Sale too this week on Friday PM!
Next wee we will be making poetry books to publish our poems in to bring home! It's also the run up to Easter so we will be doing lots of Easter Activities too!
Week beginning 19th March
In English this week we have written a 'word classes' list poem, we have also made poetry books which we will bring home! In Maths we have been looking at unit fractions, finding equivalence and finding 3/4 of numbers using the bar model to help us! In Topic we've looked at food chains and thought about who is at the top and bottom of them. In Art we have made finger print crosses to remind us of the Easter Story, they are truly colourful and look brilliant! We have also enjoyed an Easter egg hunt (Mrs Crenol his them really well!) and our Easter Bonnet parade!
We have worked brilliantly hard this term! Enjoy your Easter break and I look forward to welcoming you back for the final Summer Term!
