LO: I can compare fractions with the same denominator.

Today we are comparing fractions with the same denominator. The denominator is the bottom number and is the amount of pieces the pizza is cut into or the amount of groups it is divided into.

When comparing the fractions with the same denominator, you only need to worry about the numerator (the top number, the number of pieces of pizza you get.)

Remember, we are focusing on the amount of pizza you get. The questions when comparing will use language smaller and larger, smallest and largest amounts.

If we look at 1/4 and 3/4 which fraction would give you the smallest amount of pizza?

1/4 = you would have one piece of the 4 pieces of pizza.

3/4 = you would have three pieces of the 4 pieces of pizza.

So you would have the smallest amount if you had 1/4 and the largest amount if you had 3/4.
