18/09/17

Girls football team finish 3rd in ESFA area tournament. A  spirited display saw the girls lose their opening two games against Hamp Academy (2-1) and Bridgwater College Academy (1-0) before finally fining top gear and securing a magnificent victory against and unbeaten Kingsmoor team (4-0).

29/01/16 A huge well done to our boys football team who represented not only St Joseph's, but the Sedgemoor area in the County Football Finals held on Friday 29th January at Bridgwater College. Twelve talented teams from around the County were grouped into two pools of six, with the top two teams in each pool progressing to the semi-finals. For the first time in St Joseph's history I'm proud to say that our boys finished second in the group stage of the competition winning three games, drawing one and loosing just the one, enough to earn them a place in the semi-finals. The boys put up a spirited display and narrowly missed out on a place in the final with a 2-0 defeat to a talented team from Portishead. However, all concerned should all be extremely proud of themselves, having achieved a position that no St Joseph's team has managed before! Well done Archie, Adam, Joshua, Leo, Isaac, Jack, Will, James and Sam.

15/12/15 An enormous well done to our Sports Hall Athletics team who finished in 5th place in the Winter School Games County Finals on Tuesday afternoon. This is tremendous achievement, especially for a school of our size! The 18 children from Years 5 and 6 (9 girls and 9 boys) were magnificent, competing with passion, determination and huge amount of ability against the best Primary, Junior and Middle schools in the County. Well done to all concerned and a huge thank you to all those parents who helped with transport to and from the event.

30/11/15 A huge well done to our boys football team who reached the County finals on Monday this week. The team were victorious against opposition from St Andrew's, St Mary's, Berrow, St Joseph's (Bridgwater) and Eastover. This is a huge achievement as nearly all of these schools (with the exception of St Joseph's in Bridgwater and Berrow) are over twice the size of our school. The boys will now represent the area at the prestigious County finals which are due to be played at the end of January. Well done to Archie, Joshua, Sam, Adam, Leo, Will, Jack, James and Isaac, a superb result!!

19/11/15 An enormous well done to our Sports Hall athletics team who reached the County Finals this afternoon. The team made up of 9 girls and 9 boys had to compete against strong competition from 13 other schools, many of which are twice the size of ours! I'm glad to say that St Joseph's were crowned overall area champions and will compete in the County Finals in mid December. Well done team, a fantastic all round effort and I look forward to next months competition!

16/11/15 A spirited display saw the girls football team bow out in the Area Finals this afternoon. Despite a huge amount of passion, determination and all round effort, the girls were sadly unable to progress to the County Finals. Well done Kitty, Mimi, Rhiannon, Kizzie, Isabelle, Eleni, Holly, Megan, Abbie and Phoebe, both the school and Mr Fisher are extremely proud of you.

19/10/15 The boys football team progressed to the area finals earlier this week. Playing five games in a strong pool, they won games against St John and St Francis (2-0), Westover Green (2-0) and North Petherton (1-0) . Their final two games were draws against Berrow (0-0) and St Joseph's, Bridgwater (0-0). We wish the boys the best of luck in the area finals which will be played at the end of November.

21/10/15 A huge well done to the mixed boys and girls team of 11 super star rugby players who represented the school in Wednesdays World Cup festival. You all played some magnificent rugby. The movement, passing and support play was fantastic and I look forwards to next month tournament.

14/10/15 Wednesday saw a team of 40 children from St Joseph's compete in the latest inter school cross country. With the event being held at Burnham-on-Sea Rugby ground we were always going to have a home advantage and the children did not disappoint. There were fantastic performances from everyone and we even managed two silver medals in a couple of the races (well done Lillie and Fletcher). A great all round team effort! Well done Team St Joseph's!!!!!

28/09/15 A huge well done to the Girls football team who reached the area finals yesterday evening. Competing against four other schools in Pool B, the Girls remained unbeaten and didn't even concede a goal, winning games against Somerset Bridge (1-0), Bridgwater College Academy (1-0) and drawing 0-0 against Berrow and North Newton. Sharp shooters Megan and Abbie scored the winning goals with Eva, Rhiannon and Kizzie offering a solid line of defence at the other end (all three girls timing their tackles to perfection)! The engines of the team Isabelle, Dorothy and Eleni dribbled regularly into the oppositions half, made some great tackles and never seemed to tire as they tracked back to support their defenders when they were needed. Kitty was a rock in goal, pulling of some great saves, including a penalty! Great all round effort form an extremely hard working group of girls. We look forward to the finals on 16th November! Check out the latest pictures of this event in the School Gallery.

23/09/15 A huge well done to the team of 26 Cross Country stars from St Joseph's who once again braved the elements and competed in the first area cross country of the year. The course was a particularly long one and you were all magnificent and a credit to the school. Well done and I look forwards to next months races which will be held at the BASC ground in mid October.

17/06/15 Wednesday 17th June was a really busy day for 16 girls and boys from St Joseph's who competed in the Sedgemoor Area Tennis Tournament held at the Avenue Tennis Club in Burnham. The competition which seems to increase in size every year was once again a huge success with over 120 children (30 different teams) from around the area making the journey to the sunny courts of Burnham-on-Sea. The team, made up of children who have been involved in Mr Fisher's afterschool tennis club were magnificent! For the majority of them, this is the first time that they have represented the school at inter school level and they all competed with passion, determination and displaying incredible team spirit, whether they won, lost or drew their games. Although we did not progress to the finals of the competition, I feel that it is safe to say that the experience was a really positive one for all the children. A huge well done to the team - You were a credit to the school and yourselves and should be very proud of your achievements.

15/06/15 On Monday 15th June a team of 32 children from Year 3-6 travelled to Robert Blake Science Academy to compete in the Area Quad Kids Athletics Championships. Each member of the team was required to complete a sprint, a throw, a standing long jump and a longer run. Points were awarded for times and distances and at the end of the competition the team winners were announced. I'm very happy to say that our Year 3/4 team of girls and boys finished in a magnificent second place with our Year 5/6 team going one better and winning their competition. A team of team of Year 3/4 and 5/6 will now be selected to represent the area in the prestigious School Games County Finals being held on Thursday 2nd July. A huge well done to everyone who was involved in this event and good luck to those that are selected to compete in the County Finals.

20/05/15 A fantastic performance today saw our Year 6 Boys finish third out of nine teams in the area Kwik Cricket finals held at North Petherton Cricket Club. Losing just the one game, the boys narrowly missed out on a place in the final. Bowling, fielding and batting improved with each game and the team spirit and camaraderie were tremendous. Considering the majority of the team have played no competitive cricket before, this achievement is even more extraordinary. A huge well done to Ethan, Ben, Kieran, George, Jude, Harrison, both the Olivers and Daniel. You all played some magnificent cricket. Once again, the school (and Mr Fisher) are very proud of you!

29/04/15 A gilt edged performance today saw our cricketers finish runners up in the area Kwik Cricket finals held at North Petherton Cricket Club. Winning all of their group games and finishing top of their pool, the boys went on to play against Somerset Bridge (a school over twice the size of ours) in the final. A closely fought game saw the boys narrowly miss out on victory by just 16 runs. Bowling, fielding and batting improved with each game and considering the majority of the team have only just been introduced to competitive cricket this week, this achievement is even more extraordinary. A huge well done to William, Sam, Samuel, Leo, Isaac, Archie, Adam and James. You all played some magnificent cricket (the catch taken by Sam in the final game of the afternoon was like something you would expect to see at Lords in a 20/20 final)!!! The school (and Mr Fisher) are very proud of you all!

21/04/15 On a cold and windy Tuesday evening, seven children from St Joseph's battled against the elements in the County Cross Country Finals held at RAF Ilton, near Langport. The children were selected as part of a 60 strong team sent from the Sedgemoor area to compete against the best runners in the County.
Charlotte, Isabelle, Dorothy and Abbie were first to race over the challenging 1.1 mile course! They were magnificent, battling hard to the very end. Next up was James, running a year under age (he has another year in this age group). He was soon into a rhythm and finished like a train!! The final two races of the evening were the Year 5/6 Girls, followed by the Year 5/6 Boys. With this tough, 1.6 mile course, Katie-Rose and Daniel Maydew were fantastic, galloping over the knee length grass they even managed to catch breath and pose for a photo in the finishing funnel.

This is an incredible achievement for all concerned and the children should be very proud of themselves. To be selected to represent the area is fantastic, but to then compete with such effort and determination is an even better achievement. Well done to all of you!

17/04/15 On Friday 17th April, the Year 5 Boys Futsal team travelled to Millfield School to compete in the Spring Games County Finals. Playing a total of four games against the best school teams in Somerset, I'm happy to say that the boys finished in a magnificent second place, winning one game, drawing two and losing just once to the eventual winners.

The boys played with passion and determination, coming from behind on a couple of occasions to achieve a result. Many of the schools that we played against are over twice the size of St Joseph's which makes the overall result even more impressive. Well done Archie, Leo, Adam, Joshua, Sam and Will, you can be very proud of this achievement.

04/03/15 Yesterday a team of eight Year 5 and Year 6 children competed in the Sedgemoor Area Schools Tag Rugby Finals. There were at total of 15 schools represented from across the area and the children competed within a pool of 5. With games against Berrow, Huntspill, Bridgwater College Academy and Kingsmoor the children were victorious in two of the their games and very narrow losers in the other two games (there was just one point separating the teams). This was a fantastic team effort and the children not only played some fantastic rugby, but they also conducted themselves extremely well as representatives of St Joseph's School. Well done Archie, Caitlin, Ben, Ethan, Katie-Rose, Harrison, Connor and Adam - The school is very proud!

25/02/15 The Year 5 Boys stormed to victory last night in the Area Futsal Finals! 09/02/15 A huge well done to the children of St Joseph's who competed in the latest cross country race held at Brymore school in Cannington. This was a fast, but challenging course with plenty of uphill, down hill and even the odd hay bale to negotiate. The children all ran extremely well and should be very proud of themselves. With 38 children competing in the different age group races, I am pleased to announce that we have finished 4th overall in this years competition (there were in excess of 20 schools entered). This is a fantastic result considering two of the schools above us are twice the size of ours! A great effort from all concerned and I look forwards to next years competition.

With the score 1-0 at half time the boys moved into another gear in the second half scoring three more goals and running away with the victory. A huge well done to Archie, Adam, Isaac, Leo, Zachary, William, Joshua, Samuel and William D.

Well done Adam, Ben, Isaac, Ethan, Leo, Daniel, Jude, Harrison and Archie.

19/11/14 Today, two teams of boys and girls from St Joseph's participated in a friendly 'Tag Rugby' tournament. The tournament itself was aimed at giving children a taste of inter school competition in a relaxed and friendly format. Although final scores were not collected in, the format enabled teams to move up and down the pitches dependent on each result. The two teams from St Joseph's played fantastically well with incredible team spirit. It was a great experience for all the children who took part and we look forward to the next tournament. Well done Harrison, Connor, Kitty, Kizzie, Ben, Archie, Adam, Caitlin, Katie-Rose, Jack, Greg, Samuel (x2), Jude, James, Joshua and Kieran.

10/11/14

24/10/14 A huge well done to the 28 children from St Joseph's who took part in today's cross-country held at North Pethterton Rugby club. There were some fantastic performances from all the age groups (Year 3's up to Year 6's), however a special mention must go to the Year 4 girls who had four children placed in the top 6 (1st Abbie, 3rd Isabelle, 4th Dorothhy and 5th Charlotte)!

22/10/14
A team of ten girls and boys from Years 5 and 6 represented St Joseph's today in a friendly Tag Rugby tournament held at North Petherton Rugby Club. For many of the children this was a new experience and the first time they had played Tag Rugby competitively and all of them performed incredibly well. The team won a couple of games and lost a couple, but they all seemed to enjoy the experience and played with real passion and determination. The future looks bright regarding this sport and I look forward to next months competition where the school is looking to send 3 teams of ten. Well done Harrison, Connor, Kitty, Kizzie, Ben, Archie, Adam, Caitlin, Katie-Rose and Ethan.

15/10/14
On Wednesday afternoon over 50 children from St Joseph's competed in the latest inter-school cross country held at The King Alfred School. There were representatives for all age groups from Year 3 all the way up to the oldest Year 6 children. Weather conditions were perfect for cross country running as the children braved the elements and battled hard for positions! There were of course a number of children who won medals and their gallant efforts should not be forgotten, however this weeks write up will focus more on the overall efforts of the team. Many children run regularly in these cross country events and although they do not finish in the top twenty positions their effort and determination to represent the school and compete as part of a team is highly commended and needs to be highlighted in the same light as our medal winners -You all know who you are! Well done team St Joseph's!!!!! We are now up to 2nd place overall!!!!!

You all performed magnificently and should be very proud of yourselves. Well done!

06/02/14 On Thursday 6th February a team of seven Year 4 and Year 5 boys travelled to Bridgwater College to take part in an area Futsal tournament (a competitive, fast version of indoor football played with a smaller, heavier ball). Having very little experience of the game the boys competed against three other schools from the Bridgwater area, winning one of their games, drawing one and losing one. Results were as follows:
St Joseph's 5 Somerset Bridge 0
St Joseph's 0 Kingsmoor 0 (eventual winners)
St Joseph's 2 BCA 3

The boys picked up the concept of the game really quickly and they played fantastically well. The results were excellent considering many of the schools attending were double the size of ours and over half of our team were a year under age and have another year in this age group - this all bodes well for next years competition! A huge well done to Jude Harris, Daniel Maydew, Ben scott, Isaac Neale, Leo James, William Dyer and Joshua House.

07/02/14 A team of ten Year 5 and 6 girls from St Joseph's represented both the school and Sedgemoor area at the Somerset County Football Finals held at Bridgwater College on Friday 7th February. Having beaten off competition from eight other schools in the Sedgemoor area to be crowned local champions, the girls took on the best in Somerset and performed magnificently. With a difficult initial pool containing the overall winner of the competition, the girls manged to complete the days games with a win, a draw and two lost games. Results were as follows:

St Joseph's 1 Hugh Sexy's Middle School 1
St Joseph's 0 St Stephen's, Bath 2 (eventual winners)
St Joseph's 0 North Town, Taunton 1
St Joseph's 0 BCA 0 (St Joseph's win on penalties)
A huge well done to Tilly Lawrence, Maisie Crook, Nieve Davis, Monique Wellman-Mason, Harriet Puddy, Jessica-Rose Lock, Carys Hodge, Caitlin Stevens, Isobel Simmons and Fiona Williams.

10/02/14 Another brilliant turn out of 35 boys and girls from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 represented the school in the latest inter-school cross country race held at Brymore School, Cannington. Great results all round from everyone who took part. This was a proper cross country with hills and a huge amount of mud! Well done to everyone who competed - Results to follow.

CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!!
ST JOSEPH'S RETAIN THE TITLE OF 'CROSS COUNTRY TEAM CHAMPIONS' IN THE BRIDGWATER AND DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE. Well done to all of the 60+ children who competed in the three cross country races held over the course of the year. You are all a part of this successful team that managed to fight off competition from 20 other schools in the area to take the trophy! I look forward to seeing you all compete next Year!

Dorothy Green 2nd overall in the Year 3 Girls.
Freya Cooper 1st overall in the Year 4 Girls.
Tilly Lawrence 1st overall in the Year 6 Girls.

13/03/14 A huge well done to our two football teams who represented the school in the final area tournaments of the season. Both the girls and boys performed extremely well and were very unlucky not to come away with any silverware!

The boys finished their group stage with two wins against Kingsmoor (won on penalties), Eastover (1:0) and a loss against St Mary's (3:0). Unfortunately, although these results placed them near the top of their group, they were not quite good enough for them to move on to the semi-finals.
The Girls played three matches throughout the afternoon and remained unbeaten with three draws against Kingsmoor (0:0), BCA (1:1) and Huntspill (0:0). Unfortunately on this occasion other results in the competition did not go our way, however, the girls should be really proud of themselves and have finished the Bridgwater and District league unbeaten in all competitions!

02/04/14 Today a team of 23 children (11 girls and 12 boys from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6) competed in a local swimming gala against four other school from the surrounding area. The team were runners up in the overall competition and were only 34 point behind the overall winners which is a huge achievement for a school of our size and is once again accredited to the effort and determination that was displayed by all of the children involved. There were some fantastic individual and relay performances throughout the afternoon (9 x 1st, 19 x 2nd, 10 x 3rd and 3 x 4th) with individual gold medals going to:
Holly Parsons (Year 4 Girls 25 M Backstroke)
Fiona Williams (Year 5 Girls 25M Breaststroke)

Samuel Keely-Watts (Year 4 Boys 25M Freestyle)
