  • Cricket team finish runners up in Area Finals

    Thu 30 Apr 2015
A gilt edged performance today saw our cricketers finish runners up in the area Kwik Cricket finals held at North Petherton Cricket Club. Winning all of their group games and finishing top of their pool, the boys went on to play against Somerset Bridge (a school over twice the size of ours) in the final. A closely fought game saw the boys narrowly miss out on victory by just 16 runs. Bowling, fielding and batting improved with each game and considering the majority of the team have only just been introduced to competitive cricket this week, this achievement is even more extraordinary. A huge well done to William, Sam, Samuel, Leo, Isaac, Archie, Adam and James. You all played some magnificent cricket (the catch taken by Sam in the final game of the afternoon was like something you would expect to see at Lords in a 20/20 final)!!! The school (and Mr Fisher) are very proud of you all!
  • Super seven represent Sedgemoor in the County Cross Country Finals

    Thu 30 Apr 2015
On a cold and windy Tuesday evening, seven children from St Joseph's battled against the elements in the County Cross Country Finals held at RAF Ilton, near Langport. The children were selected as part of a 60 strong team sent from the Sedgemoor area to compete against the best runners in the County.
Charlotte, Isabelle, Dorothy and Abbie were first to race over the challenging 1.1 mile course! They were magnificent, battling hard to the very end. Next up was James, running a year under age (he has another year in this age group). He was soon into a rhythm and finished like a train!! The final two races of the evening were the Year 5/6 Girls, followed by the Year 5/6 Boys. With this tough, 1.6 mile course, Katie-Rose and Daniel Maydew were fantastic, galloping over the knee length grass they even managed to catch breath and pose for a photo in the finishing funnel.
This is an incredible achievement for all concerned and the children should be very proud of themselves. To be selected to represent the area is fantastic, but to then compete with such effort and determination is an even better achievement. Well done to all of you!

  • Futsal team finish second in County Finals

    Wed 22 Apr 2015
On Friday 17th April, the Year 5 Boys Futsal team travelled to Millfield School to compete in the Spring Games County Finals. Playing a total of four games against the best school teams in Somerset, I'm happy to say that the boys finished in a magnificent second place, winning one game, drawing two and losing just once to the eventual winners.

The boys played with passion and determination, coming from behind on a couple of occasions to achieve a result. Many of the schools that we played against are over twice the size of St Joseph's which makes the overall result even more impressive. Well done boys, you can be very proud of this achievement.
