Pentecost

 

Year 1

Age related outcomes of the Module

  • Pupils will recognise the Pentecost story as told in Acts of the Apostles AT1
  • Pupils will recognise subject specific words including: Pentecost, Disciple, Spirit AT1
  • Pupils will recognise the symbols of Pentecost AT1
  • Pupils will be able to say what they wonder about concerning the Pentecost AT2
  • Pupils will be able to recognise that disciples of Jesus acted in specific ways because of their beliefs AT2

 

Year 2

Age related outcomes of the Module

  • Pupils will be able to describe aspects of the coming of the Spirit as told in John’s Gospel AT1
  • Pupils will be able to use correctly subject specific words and phrases like: Pentecost, Spirit, forgiveness and symbols of the Spirit AT1
  • Pupils will be able to describe some ways in which the disciples responded to the Holy Spirit AT1 
  • Pupils will be able to ask questions concerning the coming of the Spirit and ask questions about the feelings of the disciples meeting the risen Christ and receiving the Spirit AT2

Year 4

Age related outcomes of the Module

  •  Pupils will be able to explain how the account of Pentecost informs the beliefs of Christians and how St Paul’s letter to the Colossians describes the qualities needed to witness to Jesus. AT1
  •  Pupils will be able to explain and give reasons for the use of the particular symbols of the Spirit in the Pentecost Story.  (Both Acts and John) AT1
  • Pupils will be able to describe and explain the symbolism used in specific pieces of art portraying the Pentecost story and ask meaningful questions about the art work AT1/AT2
  •  Pupils will be able to describe the life and work of St Francis making links between his actions and beliefsAT1
  • Pupils will be able to use evidence from scripture to explore if (and how) the apostles changed after the Pentecost experience AT3

 

Year 5

Age related outcomes of the Module

  • Pupils will be able to describe the Jewish festival of Pentecost and make links between this and the Christian festival of Pentecost.AT1
  • Pupils will be able to describe different occasions in the Bible which talk about the Spirit of God (looking up the references themselves and make links between these events and Christian beliefs about the Holy spirit.  AT1
  • Pupils will be able using scripture evidence to compare their own and other people’s ideas about “What the Holy Spirit is” AT2
  •  Pupils will be able to describe the special features of the Liturgy on Pentecost Sunday and make links with the Pentecost story AT1
  • Pupils will be able to explain what it means to say the Church is the Body of Christ and Why the Church is often referred to as servant AT 1
  • Pupils will be able to express their own views on which image of the Church they prefer giving reasons for their choice AT3

 

Year 6

Age related outcomes

  • Pupils will be able to recall and select the key features of the Pentecost story and its effect on the disciples AT1 
  • Pupils will show understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit AT1 
  • Pupils can explain how their own or others decisions might be influenced by the gifts and fruits of the Spirit. AT2 (you could refer to actual examples showing how people put the gifts into action in their own lives) AT2

  • Pupils will be able to show understanding of the different Biblical sources that contribute to the Confirmation liturgy and make links to show how these sources are used. AT1 

  • Pupils can give their views with evidence from more than one source on the question ‘Catholics should be confirmed’ AT3 (This evidence could take the form of scripture/people’s experiences/the words of leaders in the church etc.)
