Autumn Term

Gymnastics - We have been perfecting our gymnastic routines.

Science - Today we learnt how to measure the mass of objects in Newtons using a Newton meter.

French - Today we learnt the adjectives to describe hair colour, style, length and eye colour. We worked in groups to sort the adjectives.

Science - we started our new topic ‘forces’ today. We revisited our previous knowledge ready to start on the year 5 objectives. We sorted pictures into pushes, pulls and both. Some needed quite a discussion!

‘On Your Bike’ Bike Maintenance Workshop! Today we learnt how to maintain our bikes in a workshop and took part in a tyre change challenge!

Maths- Maths Week England Monday Marbel Problem Solving! Today we worked in group to solve the daily challenge, we realised it linked to common multiples which was our learning last week!

Maths - Using counters to support our learning about factors by making arrays!

Fire Safety Presentation from the Fire Service!

PE- Our final Basketball session with Mr Irish to put our skills into practice!

Science- I can explain the role of a key Scientists and how they helped to shape what we know now!

RE- designing our posters about Sikh Gurus

Art- Designing our ‘Vision For The Future’ prints!

English- We have been starting to write our diary entries! We have introduced write a line miss a line to help with the dieting process and have followed a shared writing approach to support us!

Art- we have created our own stamps for printing using a variety of materials!

Key Stage 2 Live Author Zoom Visit with Hannah Gold!Key Stage 2 joined Hannah Gold for the launch of her new book Turtle Moon. We also watched how illustrator Levi took inspiration for the book too!

World Mental Health Day 2024 We wore yellow to school today and thought about the importance of having a healthy mind. We made helping hearts which showed things we do to improve our mental health and how we can help others.

National Poetry Day - Today we focused on the poem “Paean (Eleven uses for a garden pea);We then worked in groups to come up with imaginative uses for an elastic band and a Lego brick. We then created our own poems based on the original.

History- This afternoon we acted out our Viking Saga tales in table groups!

Art- This afternoon we have enjoyed a visit from the National Gallery exploring colour mixing and composition!

Science - We have been naming, ordering and finding out facts about the planets in the Solar System. We have watched videos, looked in books and carried out our own research.

History- We had clues at the start of the lesson and had to work out their historical link to the Vikings! This then led to our learning about Viking Sagas! Please ask the children at home about these!

English- Today we had an oral debate about whether Armstrong the Mouse should go on his journey to meet the unknown letter writer! We had to use debate language and we’re extremely grown up and sensible!

English- We have written presentations from the point of view of the mouse from our book Armstrong! We had to convince the other mice that the moon was not made of cheese and then present them using prosody!

Humanities- This afternoon we learnt about Viking Trade routes and things that they traded! We played an online game and had to decide if we wanted to raid or trade with countries! It caused a lot of excitement in Year 5!

RE- We have been thinking about the 2 Creation stories in the Bible. The 7 Day Story and The Garden of Eden. We have created artwork to depict these!

Term 1 E-Safety Lesson. We reminded ourselves about how to keep safe online and shared our worries linked to online safety. We also had some interesting discussions around the use of technology in our lives.
