Summer

Computing - Following on from our last Computing lesson where we designed our own website, today we went one step further - we created them! We picked a topic that interested us, and thought about how to engage the reader.

Year 7 Science - This time, we had 3 science teachers from King Alf’s, who delivered an amazing lesson. We discovered what chromatography is, and used it to solve a crime! We had lots of fun, and we are all really excited for our future science lessons!

Year 7 Maths - We were lucky enough to have two maths teachers from King Alfred’s visit us today, and teach us a fantastic maths lesson! We had lots of fun and really enjoyed the challenge.

Science - We spent all day learning about the human circulatory system. We looked at the different parts of the heart and their functions. We learnt about what’s inside of our blood, and what their purposes are. We then completed an experiment, where we explored how and why different poses raise our heart rates

English - Today we explored the poem ‘Don’t Quit’, which was all about resilience and having a positive attitude. We then came up with our own rhyming words, ready to write a poem about Year 6 SATs week!

Maths - Year 6 are taking part in the Somerset Counts Maths Project. Our first challenge was to explore how many rectangles we could make using 12 squares, and we explored which size rectangles would provide the biggest / smallest perimeter.

English - We are writing a set of instructions to give to the Year 5 children on how to survive Year 6!

RE - We asked each other a range of ‘what if’ questions, linking to our work on temptations. This encouraged a lot of deep thinking, and some fantastic responses!

Geography - We explored our geography topic of different energy sources all day today, and we really enjoyed it! First, we researched a range of renewable and non-renewable sources, finding their strengths and drawbacks. We then explored different case studies in America and England, before walking around the school grounds and deciding where the best place would be for a new solar panel!

Ice cream treat! We finished our SATs week out in the sun, enjoying our ice lollies on the field and taking time to relax and chill out! A massive thank you to Scott Littlewood from Olympic Plumbing Heating, who bought all of our tasty treats for us, it was a perfect way to end a stressful week! Thank you!

Science - Firstly, we explored inherited characteristics, and how we can look similar, but not identical, to our family members. We used the Simpsons to explain dominant and recessive genes, which we really enjoyed! Next, we looked at how certain animals have adapted over time to ensure they survive. We then designed our own moths that would survive in the Year 6 classroom. See if you can spot them!

SATs are finished!!! We celebrated by going to the park and enjoying the sunshine. A big well done to Year 6 - we are so proud of your hard work and determination. You are all superstars!

In Art we have been exploring how to create 3D prototypes using Tinkercad.

Working on our mathematical reasoning skills!
