St Joseph'sCatholic Primary & Nursery School

Spring

A huge well done to these children for competing in the DCET Public Speaking Competition today! I am so proud of their confidence, respect, and teamwork skills, and they represented St Joseph’s brilliantly!

English - After researching the pros and cons of school uniforms, ready to debate it next week, we organised our arguments and explored how formal language is used when debating. We then went outside and practised saying our points to a partner, either building on each other’s arguments, or disagreeing with them!

English - We finished or fantastic non-chronological reports, all about wolves. I am so impressed with the standard we are writing at. Well done everyone!

PE - Outdoor Adventure Activities with Mr Irish. Our focus today was to improve our teamwork skills!

Maths - High concentration in Year 6, drawing some accurate and impressive dual bar charts!

Science - We invented our own adapted animals, explaining how it’s unique features allow it to survive in a range on environments! We also explored its prey and predators, and created our own names for them too. We had the ‘Bunny-copter’, the ‘Crystal Predator’ and ‘The Warden’ - very inventive!

Maths - Finding the area of triangles!

Children’s Mental Health Week - We started off our week by drawing the place where we feel we belong the most. We had some excellent ideas: home, school, the beach, the football pitch, and of course - our bed!

English - Editing our fantastic character descriptions, all about Mina from Skellig!

Art - We created abstract pieces of art, inspired by Fiona Rae.

RE - We created freeze frames to act out different examples of Jesus’ Golden Rule. Can you tell what message each group are showing?

National Storytelling Week- KS2 have enjoyed exploring stories through rap and rhythm with Alim Kamara!

WW2 History Workshop! This morning we had a brilliant museum workshop to kick start our new history topic on the World Wars. The children had a fantastic time learning all about rationing, evacuees and air raids. We got the chance to use rationing tokens, explore an evacuee’s suitcase, and use an old-fashioned hose and pump to ring circles around a ‘bomb’!

Maths - We started our Decimals unit by recapping partitioning decimals into ones, tenths, hundredths and thousandths!

Geography - We explored the different regions of the UK and their population percentages. We then independently researched how climate change can impact population, and what we can do about it.

Maths - We used different resources to represent algebraic expressions!
