  • Skipping Success for the Green Team!!

    Tue 24 Mar 2015
The children of St Joseph's gathered today in the School Hall for a very special Whole School Assembly. Over the course of the last half term our coloured teams have been competing against one another to see how many skips they can do in 20 seconds. Their scores have been added together (across the whole of the school) to find out which team has the highest overall average. Would it be St Matthew, St Mark, St Luke or St John?

I'm happy to announce that the overall winner this Term is

Congratulations goes out to all its members. The results have been engraved on 'The Walton Cup' which currently sits in the entrance to the school.

  • Playground Leaders in training!

    Wed 11 Mar 2015
Today at St Joseph's 24 children from our Junior classes were involved in some exciting Playground Leadership training run by our School Games coordinator Nancy Murdoch

Playground Leaders set up and run simple games for younger children in the school playground during break and lunch times. This is a real opportunity for individuals to take a first step along the leadership ladder and become responsible for developing an important aspect of school life.

The School Council has spent time selecting and purchasing a range of equipment ready to be used and today the children received  a morning session of coaching. The children were put through their paces and were shown how to set up, manage and where needed adapt a range of playground games.

We hope that the introduction of such leaders will ensure that playtime continues to be an enjoyable and stimulating experience for all concerned. Well done to this team of 24 and we look forward to seeing your orange Playground Leadership caps floating around the playground hard at work!!

  • Tag Rugby Team Triumph!!

    Thu 05 Mar 2015
Yesterday a team of eight Year 5 and Year 6 children competed in the Sedgemoor Area Schools Tag Rugby Finals. There were at total of 15 schools represented from across the area and the children competed within a pool of 5. With games against Berrow, Huntspill, Bridgwater College Academy and Kingsmoor the children were victorious in two of the their games and very narrow losers in the other two games (there was just one point separating the teams). This was a fantastic team effort and the children not only played some fantastic rugby, but they also conducted themselves extremely well as representatives of St Joseph's School. Well done all of you - The school is very proud!
  • National Science and Engineering Week

    Wed 04 Mar 2015
    Dear Parents,

During the week commencing 16th March, the school will be holding a special events week to coincide with National Science and Engineering Week.

During this week, there will be a number of special assemblies in which the children will learn about energy and observe science experiments. We will be looking at inventors, engineers and investigate the science behind moving. These activities will be closely linked to DT and the children will get the chance to design and make a contraption.

Year 3 have created a questionnaire for any parents or family members with a job in science or engineering. You will be able to collect one of the questionnaires from your child’s teacher. If you could return the completed form to the school by Wednesday 18th, we will display these during our science fair.

On Thursday 19th March, we will be holding a science fair in the hall during the afternoon. The children will be able to see what all the other classes within the school have been learning. This will hopefully be a chance to see a finished invention from each class.

The PTA are organising a star gazing event which will take place on Friday 20th March from 5pm- 7pm. There will be a guest speaker and the chance to learn more about stars. Further information about this event will follow shortly.

    Yours sincerely,

    Miss F Duncan
    Subject Leader for Science
