  • St Joseph's Gymnasts Are 7th Best In The County!

Mon 30 Apr 2018 Mr Fisher
Another trip to Yeovil, another remarkable team performance! Well done to our Year 3/4 Gymnasts who travelled to Yeovil last week to represent both school and area in the Somerset School Games Finals. Finishing the competition in 7th place, the children had to perform a rather complex routine, along with a series of testing vaults. As if that wasn't nerve racking enough, their performances were delivered in front of a rather large audience and scored by an official panel of judges! 7th place is great result and considering half the team still have another year in this age group, the future and quality of gymnastics at St Joseph's looks rosy!
  • Cross Country Runners Medal in County Finals

Mon 30 Apr 2018 Mr Fisher
Well, what can I say? On a cold April evening, a selected team of cross country runners from St Joseph's travelled all the way to Yeovil to represent not only our school, but the Sedgemoor district in the Inter area County Finals. The course was short and fast, but never the less the children were quite simply brilliant and performed admirably with both the Year 5/6 girls and boys teams taking home bronze team medals! To even be selected to represent the area in such a prestigious event is just amazing in itself and all the children should be very proud of what they have achieved. Well done all of you!

  • Year 3/6 Swimmers Crowned Gala Champions

Fri 20 Apr 2018 Mr Fisher

Well, what can I say.......Never in my 21 years of teaching at St Joseph's have our Swimming team come so close to winning the overall Burnham-on-Sea swimming gala! The children from Years 3 and 6 who competed this afternoon against 8 other schools from around the area were just quite simply remarkable! We forged ahead in the competition at the half way stage and maintained a slender lead over St Andrew's finishing the afternoon 6 points clear in first place! With two sets of gala results combined we finished with with 271 points, just 8 points behind the overall winners but 80 points in front of third place! We've never been so close!!!!!! Well done everyone who competed in either gala (and a special well done to Matilda, Kitty and Niamh who were all swimming up a year today) - truly amazing.

  • Year 1 Sports Festival A Roaring Success

Wed 18 Apr 2018 Mr Fisher

Today 32 Year 1 children from St Joseph's walked their way down to The King Alfred School in the glorious sunshine for an exciting morning of sporting activity. On arrival we met with our federated school Corpus Christi and nearby local school Churchfield who had also brought along all of their Year 1 children to participate in a range of athletic events run by the young leaders from the secondary school. With a pirate theme, the different events on offer were aimed at developing fundamental skills such as running, jumping, balancing, throwing etc. and the children were mixed into groups so that they were given the opportunity to work with children from other schools. The morning was just brilliant and all the children seemed to really enjoy the experience (although the walk back to school with so many tired legs was a little challenging). Behaviour was excellent as always and it was great to see so many smiling faces. I look forward to the Reception and Year 2 events which will be running later in the summer term.

Photos of the morning will follow later this week.

  • Year 4/5 Swimmers Finish Second

Wed 18 Apr 2018 Mr Fisher
A huge well done to the 14 boys and girls in Years 4 and 5 who represented the school on Monday afternoon in the Burnham Swimming Gala with a special mention going out to Mia, Phoebe and Emily who were all swimming up a year! A hugely competitive contest saw us pipped for first place by just 14 points! With 8 school competing in this competition the children were remarkable and I must say the team spirit and encouragement on display was just brilliant! I look forward to the next gala on Friday where the Year 3 and Year 6 children will get to swim! Well done team St Joseph's!

  • 3rd Place Finish For Year 5/6 Gymnasts

Thu 12 Apr 2018 Mr Fisher
In an extremely competitive area competition our Year 5/6 Gymnasts pulled off a magnificent 3rd place finish. This is the first time St Joseph's has entered the Year 5/6 Sedgemoor competition and judging by the quality of performance executed by the children I am really looking forward to next year! The children were scored on a routine that they had put together and refined themselves (a difficult task in itself). They were absolutely amazing and everyone who was involved in this experience can hold their heads high. All your hard work did not go unnoticed...Well done.
