  • St Joseph's children enjoy a festival of Sport!

Fri 27 Jun 2025 Mr Fisher

Today, a group of 18 children from St Joseph's (Burnham) travelled all the way to St Joseph's in Bridgwater to participate in a morning of sport! With selected children from all year groups across the school, there were opportunities to enjoy Archery, Frisbee, Beat the Goal Keeper, Long jump, parachute fun and a fantastic relay race! The children all enjoyed themselves and it was great to see them making new friends with children from other schools as they rotated around the varying stations. Great job everyone!

  • Year 5 Success at Area Sports!

Thu 26 Jun 2025 Mr Fisher

With all of of our Year 6 children attending secondary school transition this week, it was up to our Year 5 representatives to fly the St Joseph's flag in this year's Area Sports held at Brymore School, Cannington.

With the whole team of 8 girls and 8 boys competing a year under age, the task was always going to be a difficult one but the St Joseph athletes did not disappoint! Each member of the team competed in a 75m hurdles race, a 400m race, a 75m sprint, a standing triple jump and a vortex howler throw! The event ended with team relays and some very tired children!

Spirits were high throughout the competition and it was great to see such comradery coming from everyone in the group. We were competitive in all the events which is quite remarkable considering we were competing against much older and bigger children! A magnificent team effort saw us finish in 6th place out of 8 teams and sets the foundations for next year's event when the team will be a year older and a year stronger. Brilliant effort from all of you!!

  • Year 6 Rounders Success!

Fri 20 Jun 2025 Mr Fisher

For the first time in the history of St Joseph's, we sent a team of Year 6 children to compete in the Sedgemoor Area Rounders competition. As a school, we've always allowed children access to a wide range of curriculum sports rather that focusing on just the chosen few! At St Joseph's, the children only learn to play Rounders in Year 3 and Year 5 but have access to other sports in between.

Sadly, this does put us at a slight disadvantage against other schools who prioritise this one sport. Having said that, at this year's competition you would never have known that this was the case! The team of eleven girls and boys were just brilliant and showed off their true sporting ability; they were competitive throughout the competition against some very strong schools that are well over three time the size of ours!

Both Mr Fisher and Mr Franklin were so very pleased with how the children conducted themselves throughout the competition. It's always good to be given a new sporting opportunity and this team of remarkable Year 6 children embraced it and were once again a credit to the school!

  • Year 3&4 Athletics Team Finish Runners Up In Area Sports!

Wed 11 Jun 2025 Mr Fisher

More sporting success for the children of St Joseph's! This week it was the turn of our Year 3&4 Athletics team who secured a magnificent silver medal in this year's Sedgemoor Area Sports. With 13 schools participating, the team of 8 girls and 8 boys  had to compete in 6 separate events; a 75m spring, a 400m long run, a 75m hurdles, the standing long jump, a vortex howler throw and a final relay to end off the afternoon!! There wasn't a moment to spare throughout the whole day and to come away with recognition of your hard work is always a bonus. Credit goes to all of the children  who displayed a brilliant attitude throughout the competition and were once again a credit to St Joseph's. It was particularly lovely to see the team supporting each  other in such a positive way. WELL DONE ALL OF YOU!
