  • Sports Day 2019

Fri 28 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher
Well, the weather was kind to us and the children seemed to enjoy themselves. The flat races were fast and the relay races competitive. The afternoon's activities gave the children a chance to show off their agility, throwing and ball juggling skills! Well done to everyone who took part and a huge well done to the red team (St Luke) who were this years winners.
  • Whole School Skipping

Thu 27 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher
Today each class took part in an energetic skipping workshop lead by a London based coach Jamie Pettitt. Jamie travelled down from our capital city to spend the day at St Joseph's working with each class and teaching the children the fundamentals of skipping. With great weather throughout the day, our playground became a constant hive of energy and excitement! As a reward for all their hard work, the children were given their own skipping ropes to keep in school and use at break times or lunch times - a perfect way to encourage healthy activity!
  • Golf Pro Visit

Thu 27 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher
Today the classes were put through their paces by Golf Pro Shane Kaye who is a registered professional golfer based at Berrow Golf Club. Shane spent time working with each class throughout the day providing and supporting the children on a range of golfing activities from chipping to putting! The children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
  • Sports Week kicks off with Cricket!

Mon 24 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher
Today the children received a brilliant cricket coaching session with Andrew Skidmore who is Somerset's lead Community Coach and also a key member of the Nationally recognised 'Chance to Shine' scheme. It was great to see the classes having so much fun! The pictures show some of the children in Mr Fisher's class in action!
  • Athletics Team Finish Second In Sedgemoor Area Sports!

Mon 17 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher
Today a team of 8 boys and 8 girls from Years 4,5 and 6 travelled all the way to Brymore School, Cannington to compete in the Sedgemore Area Sports. With the competition comprising of 11 schools, many of which are over two or three times the size of ours, the task ahead of us was going to be a challenge! Needless the say, in true St Joseph's spirit, the team of competing athletes representing our school was once again absolutely brilliant! Battling through both heats and finals of 70m hurdles and 70m sprints as well as 200m and 400m challenges the children competed with passion and determination. The end relays capped off a remarkable day of competition with our Year 6 Boys blasting to victory in one of the final races of the day. An incredible start to the week with the St Joseph's superstars finishing in second place overall in the track element of the competition! Well done to all concerned....You were magnificent!!!!
  • St Joseph's Gymnasts Perform in County Finals

Mon 03 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher

Another trip to Yeovil, another remarkable team performance! Well done to our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Gymnasts who travelled to Yeovil just before Half Term to represent both the school and area in the Somerset School Games County Finals. Finishing the competition in 4th place, the children had to perform a rather complex routine, along with a series of testing vaults. As if that wasn't nerve racking enough, their performances were delivered in front of a rather large audience and scored by an official panel of judges! 4th place is great result and considering some of the team still have another year in their age groups, the future and quality of gymnastics at St Joseph's continues to look rosy! Well done to all concerned – You were just brilliant!

  • Swimming Gala Success

Mon 03 Jun 2019 Mr Fisher

A huge well done to the 35+ boys and girls from Years 2 up to Year 6 who represented the school just before the Half Term break in the Burnham Swimming Gala. With many of our team swimming up a year, St Joseph’s finished a very competitive 2nd place, narrowly missing out to a school with over three times more junior children to chose from! Once again the children were remarkable and I must say the team spirit and encouragement on display was just brilliant! Well done team St Joseph's!
