• Biathlon Success for St Joseph's

  On Sunday 3rd March twenty children from St Joseph's competed in the Sedgemoor Schools Biathlon Championships. This event has always been extremely popular with many local schools in the area and this year was no different with 198 children taking part!

  For St Joseph's this was the first time the school has actively promoted the competition with the children . Previous years have relied upon mentions in assembly and posters displayed around the school with only a few children choosing to participate. With the quality of swimmers we now have exceeding the required 25m mark set by the Government, accompanied with the fantastic cross country runners we have, it seemed an ideal opportunity to encourage the children to try something a little different in the form of a biathlon.

  Entry costs for the event were funded by the School Sports Premium funding and the numbers choosing to participate reflected the children's interest. Reports from Mrs Williams and Mr Lawrence who attended the event said that all twenty athletes from St Joseph's were a credit to the school and their parents. A special mention goes out to Matilda who finished 2nd in the Year 6 Girls category, Phoebe who was 2nd in the Year 4 Girls category and to Kobe (Year 5 Boys) and Matilda (Year 3 Girls) who both won their respective categories.

• SPORTS HALL ATHLETICS TEAM WIN SILVER IN SOMERSET SCHOOL GAMES COUNTY FINALS

  An enormous well done to our Sports Hall Athletics team who travelled all the way to Court Field Secondary school in Wellington and finished runners up in the School Games County Finals. The team which is made up of 9 girls and 9 boys from Years 5 and 6 were just brilliant as they ran, jumped and threw their way to success! What a fantastic achievement to be crowned the second best indoor athletics team in the whole of Somerset - you made an old teacher very proud today! Well done everyone.

  

• County Final Success for Girls Football Team

  On Friday last week the St Joseph's Girls Football Team travelled all the way to Strode College, Street to compete in the ESFA County Finals and pitch themselves against the best teams from both Somerset and North Somerset. Five magnificent performances against  winning area teams from Taunton, Yeovil, Mendip, Bath and Weston saw the  girls win, lose and draw matches as they battled their way throughout the day with the most amazing team spirit and determination. I was so proud of every performance and I hope you will all join me congratulating this remarkable group of girls. A HUGE WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED - YOU ARE A CREDIT TO BOTH THE SCHOOL AND YOUR PARENTS.

• Sports Hall Athletics Team Make County Finals

  A huge well done to the 9 boys and 9 girls who represented the school last week in the Sports Hall Athletics Area Finals held at Robert Blake School, Bridgwater. Competing against 16 other Primary and Junior schools from all over the area, the team of 18 superstars were magnificent, running jumping and throwing their way into second place and earning a spot as area representatives in the prestigious County Finals due to be held early next year. The children were just brilliant displaying a fabulous team spirit and tackling every event with effort and determination (and of course lightening speed). Well done to all concerned.

• Girls Football Team Reach County Finals

  Well, what can I say other than .....JUST AMAZING!!!!! 

  Yesterday afternoon a team of ten girls from Years 4, 5 and 6 travelled all the way to Robert Blake School, Bridgwater to compete in the ESFA Sedgemoor Area Football Finals. Having already won our opening matches in the preliminary rounds the girls were extremely excited about playing against the best schools in the Sedgemoor area - all of which had won their preliminary matches in the competition. This is probably the toughest round to progress through as the winners are asked to represent the area in the prestigious County Finals held in January.

  Anyway, the girls competed in three matched (each match was 10 minutes each way) and after wins against Eastover (2-1), Kingsmoor (3-1) and Somerset Bridge (2-1), St Joseph's finished the competition unbeaten as Area Champions and will now progress to the County Finals early next year. Every single member of the teams played with passion, determination and the team effort was just outstanding. WELL DONE GIRLS and we look forward to the County Finals in January!

• Boys Football Team Win Twice But Are Knocked Out!

  Yesterday afternoon , the boys football team travelled all the way to Robert Blake Science College, Bridgwater to compete in the first round of the ESFA football tournament. This competition is always a difficult one with the overall winners selected to represent the Area in the County Finals. Unfortunately, St Joseph's just slip into the large schools group which means that many of the schools are at least twice the size of ours making our task even more difficult! Anyway, the boys were absolutely magnificent and in my eyes played the best football of the competition, however, as we all know football can be a very cruel game and despite having countless opportunities and probably 80% possession in two of the games, two quick breaks caught us out and we lost twice 1-0. Despite impressive wins against North Petherton and overall winners Eastover, the Boys were sadly knocked out of the competition having played some brilliant football. Better luck next time boys!
