Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
Eid Mubarak is an Arabic phrase that translates to "blessed feast" or "happy feast," and it's a common greeting used by Muslims worldwide during the two major Islamic holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
This morning all the Year 1 children from St Joseph's travelled on an adventure to Bridgwater College where they enjoyed two hours of football skills delivered by the Young Sports Leaders. Participating in a carousel of 8 activities, the children worked their way around each of the stations with a smile on their face! The quality of coaching on offer was exceptional as was the behaviour and focus displayed by all of our children participating. It was great to see interaction between schools and everyone I observed throughout the morning appeared to be having a huge amount of fun! It was a pleasure to see so many children active in what was an extremely well-organised and enjoyable event.
This afternoon, a group of twenty Year 6 children travelled all the way to Bridgwater to play some friendly games of Tag Rugby against three other schools from the surrounding area. The boys and girls seemed to really enjoy this opportunity and it was evident that their rugby skills improved with every game. It was nice to see both our teams celebrating wins as well as congratulating the opposition when they lost. All the games were played with a really positive spirit and it was lovely to see such strong cohesion amongst this St Joseph's cohort, even when they had to play each other!! It was a very enjoyable way to spent a few hours outside of the classroom.
Today our Year 3/4 Gymnastics team travelled all the way to compete in the Sedgemoor Area Gymnastics Finals in Bridgwater. Performing a fairly complex routine in front of judge, the children were just magnificent and credit to the school. The competition was incredibly competitive with over 80 children representing their schools from around the area. It was great to see the children of St Joseph's performing in such a confident and cheerful manner. Well done team, you were all amazing!
The children in Yr Rec/1 had a lovely morning helping Mrs Williams celebrate St Patrick's Day! Please see class page for further photo's.
For the second half of the Spring Term, PE specialist John Irish has been working with the Junior teachers in helping to develop their delivery of Hockey (Year 3), Netball (Year 4), Tag Rugby (Year 5) and Football (Year 6). This is such a valuable opportunity for the teachers. Being given the chance to watch and learn from a specialist will hopefully continue to improve the delivery of future PE taking place across the school.
The Year 2 Gymnastics Club on Monday night has been incredibly popular with over 20 children attending each week! The children have been practicing a Key Steps routine as well as their vaulting skills.
It is always difficult picking a team to represent the school, especially when the quality and effort from the whole cohort is so high but today seven of our children travelled to St Joseph's, Bridgwater to compete in the Sedgemoor Area competition. They were just superb and after performing their routine in front of a judge, they came away with a team gold medal! A remarkable effort from such young children! Well done everyone!
What a great turnout of children again from Years 5 and 6 for Mr Fisher's after school basketball club! We warmed up with a little skill work and a focus on shielding the ball from opponents. The children then practiced some short sharp bounce passing between each other before playing some small sided games; this was an ideal chance to put into practice the skills they had been taught alongside a focus on the 'double dribble' rule! For me this is just a perfect way to end the day with such an enthusiastic and happy cohort of St Joseph's children. Great job all of you!
This afternoon it was the turn of the budding Year 3/4 Gymnasts to show off their talents in this after school club run by Mr Fisher. The children were put through their paces learning the first half of a Key Steps routine before spending the second half of the session practicing their vaulting! They were all superb and I'm already looking forwards to our session next week!
There were 22 (out of a possible 35 children) attending the After School Gymnastics Club offered by Mr Fisher and Miss Berry this week which is absolutely amazing! The children are learning a Key Steps routine and I have to say the standard of Gymnastics on show was really strong. Next week we will be introducing a little bit of vaulting with the spring board! Hopefully the uptake for the Year 3 and 4 children on Wednesday will be as good!
