Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
There was another huge turn out of runners from St Joseph's for the third and final cross country race of the season at The King Alfred School in Burnham. Racing over two consecutive days, the team performed in fairly kind conditions (albeit a bit cold). Valuable points were earned, with EVERY racer playing their part in the team's overall performance in the team competition!!! It has now been confirmed that we have finished the competition in 2ND PLACE!!! This is a truly amazing result for the school and another sign of the effort that these remarkable children put into school sport that is taking place around the Sedgemoor Area. JUST BRILLIANT!!!!

Well, this was the icing on the cake on what has been a tremendous fortnight of Sport for St Joseph's!
Once again, our superstar children were in action! This time it was the Year 5/6 County Sports Hall Athletics Finals held and Richard Huish College in Taunton. The team of 11 boys and 11 girls did not disappoint and despite some strong competition from the surrounding areas, the St Joseph's team ran, jumped and threw their way to a well deserved victory and a County Championship title!! JUST AMAZING!!!!!!
Over the last couple of days I have been lucky enough to watch both our boys and girls football teams compete in the ESFA County Finals.
To even reach this this stage of the competition is difficult enough, but what happened next over the course of those two days will rest in my memory for a very long time!
First up were the boys. With 12 school competing in the finals, the event was split into two pool stages, with the first two teams in each group progressing to a semi-final and then possibly a final!
The boys were just brilliant in the group stage matches winning 4 of their games and drawing just the one (they didn't concede a single goal). Having won their group they then went on to play a semi-final against the runners up in the other group! This game finished 1-1 and then nervously went to penalties................we won!!
The final was a hard fought affair but I'm happy to say that the boys came out victorious with a 1-0 win and in the process making history for our school. We have never reached the County Final in the school's history, let along win it!! It was a great effort from all the boys but most impressive was their team spirit!!
Next up were the girls. The set up of teams was exactly the same as the boys and once again the girls did not disappoint. Their work rate in every game was just phenomenal. They battled hard and played some brilliant football!
Finishing the group stage unbeaten with 3 draws and 2 wins (and only conceding the 1 goal against Portishead in the first game) the girls finished second in their group and went on the play the winners of the other group in the semi-final.
A tightly contested game saw a 0-0 draw at full time (against a team that had won every one of their Group Stage matches). They went to penalties which is unfortunately where their journey ended!
Again there was more history for the school. In my 28 years as a teacher here, the girls have only ever once made the semi-finals where we lost in full time! Taking the game to penalties makes this team of extraordinary girls record breakers and will surely earn them a place (along with the boys) in the archives of the school's history books.
YOU ARE ALL AMAZING AND I COULD NOT BE A PROUDER TEACHER!!! WELL DONE TEAM ST JOSEPH'S!!!!!
An absolutely amazing team performance from our Year 3 and 4 Sports Hall Athletics team saw them win the Sedgemoor Area Finals this week! Running, Jumping and throwing their way to victory, the team of 10 girls and 10 boys fought off stiff competition from 13 other school from around the area to be crowned champions! This is an amazing result for the children and even more impressive as we are classed as a small school and this competition involved many other schools well over twice the size of ours! Great job Team St Joseph's!!!!!
Another brilliant turn out from the St Joseph's children saw the school consolidate its superb 3rd position in the Sedgemoor Cross country League. Well done to all the children who braved the elements and travelled to Bridgwater College Academy last week to represent the school.

Today the Year 2 children travelled all the way to Bridgwater College to participate in a morning of Sports Hall Athletics. They had great fun working their way around a carousel of running, jumping and throwing activities before competing in a numbers of team races at the end of the morning.
An enormous well done to the 24 boys and girls who represented the school and competed in this year's Sports Hall Athletics Area Championships! Competing against stiff opposition from around the Sedgemoor Area, the team ran, jumped and threw their way to a well deserved victory and place in the Somerset County Finals being held in January! Well done everyone. This was yet another brilliant team effort from everyone concerned!
Just before the Half Term break, a team of approximately 50 children from St Joseph's travelled all the way to Brymore, Cannington to compete in the first race of the new cross country season.
On this occasion, the weather was kind to us and it was great to see so many children from the school racing!
This event is real team effort with every child that runs earing points for the school! After race number one, the school is currently sitting in third position (out of 18 participating schools) which is a magnificent achievement! Well done team St Joseph's. A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6 Girls football team who this afternoon qualified for the ESFA County Finals being held in Weston-Super Mare in the New Year.
Competing against 13 other Girls teams from around the Sedgemoor area, the St Joseph's superstars cruised to victory in all their group stages matches with wins against Brent Knoll (3-1), St John and St Francis (7-0), Hamp Academy (1-0) and St Mary's (1-0). A 1-0 win in the semi final against Somerset Bridge saw us play North Petherton for the title which I'm pleased to say we secured with a remarkable1-0 victory!! A magnificent display of footballing talent from all the girls who played some amazing football throughout the tournament. WELL DONE TEAM AND BRING ON THE COUNTY FINALS!!
A brilliant performance once again from our boys football team saw them triumph as overall competition winners in the ESFA football qualifiers for the Sedgemoor region. The boys played four group stage matches winning all of their games and finishing top of the group! They then went on to play against the second placed team from the neighboring group in the semi-finals which they won (1-0). A closely contested final saw the boys progress to a nerve-racking penalty shoot out which I'm pleased to say they won and were crowned area champions! St Joseph's will now represent the Sedgemoor area in the prestigious county finals at the beginning of next year. Superb effort boys!
