Fri 24 Feb 2023 Mr Fisher

Since returning from the Christmas break, a group of 21 Year 2 children have been attending an after school Gymnastics club run by Mr Fisher. To mark the end of the club, Mel Bax, a Gymnastic specialist has run a competition based around the Key Steps routine and vault that the children have been learning. Pictured below are the children who have been attending the Club and competed brilliantly in the competition. WELL DONE EVERYONE!

  • YEAR 4 BOYS TRIUMPH IN AREA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT!!

Fri 10 Feb 2023 Mr Fisher

An enormous well done to the Year 4 boys football team who were just truly magnificent in today's tournament held at Haygrove school in Bridgwater. Playing against 9 other school teams from around the area (Eastover, Somerset Bridge, Churchfield, Kingmoor, St Mary's, St John and St Francis, Enmore and St Joseph's in Bridgwater) the boys ran out overall winners scoring 23 goals and not conceding any!!!! A 3-0 victory against local rivals Churchfield in the final ensured they were crowned champions. A FANTASIC FOOTBALLING DISPLAY THAT YOU SHOULD ALL BE VERY PROUD OF!

  • ST JOSEPHS YEAR 3/4 SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS TEAM CONQUER ALL!!!

Tue 07 Feb 2023 Mr Fisher

Well, I don't really know what to say! This was an absolutely outstanding performance from the 12 girls and 11 boys from Years  3 and 4 who represented the school today in the Year 3/4 Sports Hall Athletics Area Finals. Pitted against a large number schools from the surrounding area (Enmore, Kingsmoor, St John and St Francis, Somerset Bridge, St Joseph's Bridgwater, Nether Stowey, Eastover, Otterhampton and Hamp) the St Joseph's children ran, jumped and threw their way to an amazing victory! WHAT A BRILLIANT TEAM EFFORT FROM EVERYONE CONCERNED .........You all worked so hard and should be very proud of yourselves. CONGRATULATIONS ON A WELL DESERVED VICTORY!!!!!!!

  • Cross Country Runners Shine.....Again!

Thu 02 Feb 2023 Mr Fisher

A huge well done to the 20+ girls and boys who represented St Joseph's in the latest cross country held at King Alfred's. We had some amazing performances from all of our Year 3 and Year 5 representatives in once again rather cold and testing conditions! The overall competition is very close and the St Joseph's children have undoubtedly bridged the gap between themselves and the first place team! With one more set of races to go for our Year 4 and Year 6 children, it's all to play for! School results are below:

  • Futsal Wizards!!

Fri 27 Jan 2023 Mr Fisher

Two teams of Year 4 and 5 boys represented the school this afternoon in a huge Futsal tournament held at Haygrove School in Bridgwater.

The tournament itself attracted 16 teams from all over the area, so as you can imagine, competition was extremely fierce!

There were four pools which meant that each team got to play three group stage matches and a final, dependent on their finishing position in the pool.

Both teams of boys played incredibly well with passion and determination and I was fortunate enough to observe some of the best football I have seen in a very long time!

Our school is considerably smaller than most of the opposition on show which highlights the strength in depth that we have here at St Joseph's.

One of the teams finished with two wins and two loses (amazing), with the other team finishing the competition with two draws and two wins! They didn't concede a goal and even beat the winners of the overall competition in the process!

Well done boys, this was an unbelievable effort and you should be very proud of yourselves!!

  • Footballing Boys At Their Best!!

Thu 12 Jan 2023 Mr Fisher

This afternoon, both myself and Mr Franklin had the pleasure of accompanying two teams of footballers from St Joseph's to a local area tournament being held at The King Alfred School, Burnham.

The competition drew in schools from the surrounding area and there were  representatives from Churchfield, Bridgwater College Academy (BCA), Westover Green, St Mary's, St John and St Francis and Somerset Bridge.

The boys were amazing putting on a determined and spirited effort in every game and at the same time playing some brilliant football! One of our teams even ended finishing the competition unbeaten!

What makes these performances even more remarkable is that out of the 17 boys that participated, only one of them was in Year 6 meaning that the future of football looks really rosy at St Joseph's!! WELL DONE LADS.

  • Cross Country Super Stars Brave The Elements!

Thu 15 Dec 2022 Mr Fisher

The ice and freezing temperatures didn't seem to stop 18 brave children from Joseph's competing in this week's cross country race! With arctic conditions across the county, the children were yet again amazing  as they ventured out onto a freezing Brymore course! It's never easy to run such a distance, but with the cold to contend with as well, the children should be extremely proud of their achievements.

Great effort everyone!! The stats are below and with one more race to go (King Alfred's) it's very close in the league standings:

  • Christmas Activities in School - Letter

    Wed 30 Nov 2022

    Dear Parents,

    KS1 & KS2 Christmas Performances 2022

On Tuesday 13th December at 2:00pm (entry from 1:45) and Wednesday 14th December at 10:00am (entry from 9:45) the children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes will be performing a Christmas Nativity.

You are invited to join us in the school hall.  However, as space is limited due to Health and Safety, it will be necessary to restrict families to 2 tickets in total.  Tickets will be available to collect in the playground from 8:45 – 9.00 am on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th of December.

There will be enough for each family to have 2 tickets in total for either the AM or PM performance or x 1 ticket for each performance.  If someone is collecting on your behalf they will be asked for a signature to say they have received the tickets.

On the day of the performance you will be asked for your ticket upon entry, so please keep it somewhere safe. If you don’t need your ticket/s please return to the office or to Mrs Williams who will allocate to those on the waiting list.  It should not be passed to another parent as it will not correspond with our lists and you could be refused entry.  There will be a waiting list (spare tickets) at the time of collecting your tickets for exceptional circumstances.

These will be issued once all families have collected their tickets.

As you may appreciate this performance will be quite an occasion for the children, so we do request that very young siblings do not attend, as this can cause some disturbance during the production. Teachers will take photos of their own classes for the school website and photos will also be published in the local newspaper.  We will give details of this closer to the time.

The KS2 carol service will take place in ‘Our Lady and the English Martyrs Church’ on Tuesday 13th December at 6pm.  Everyone is welcome and you will not need a ticket to attend.

We hope you enjoy our performances and look forward to seeing you there.

A collection for charity will take place at the end of the production.

    Other Christmas events:

Wednesday 7th December – Nursery Christmas performance 2.30pm

    Thursday 8th December – PTA Christmas Disco’s (KS1 5.30 – 6.30pm and KS2 7 – 8pm)

Friday 9th December – there will be a non-uniform day where will be inviting pupils to wear their own clothes in return for donations towards the PTA Christmas raffle. Further details will be sent regarding this.

Wednesday 14th December – Christmas dinner! We would like to invite the children to wear their Christmas jumpers (in place of their normal school jumpers) on this day!
