• Key Stage 1 Gymnasts Finish 3rd in Area Finals

  A huge well done to our Key Stage 1 Gymnastics team who finished 3rd place in the Area Gymnastics competition held at St Joseph's, Bridgwater on Monday morning. The team were extremely brave performing a short routine that they were scored on by an official judge. All individual scores were then combined to give an overall team score placing us 3rd overall. A special mention must go to Nayla and Grace who were both awarded a top three finish for their individual performances in the competition. Well done to all the children that competed. The school is very proud of you.

• Cross Country Stars At It Again

  Around 25 Junior children from St Joseph's braved the elements once again in this months Cross Country held at Brymore school, Cannington.  The course is slightly more rural and adventurous than the usual football or rugby pitches that the children are use to running around. However, this did not seem to deter of effect any of the St Joseph performances. Another great team effort with every single athlete earning points for the team. There were of course a few individual medal winners (Kobe, Harriet and James) but the biggest mention must once again go to Team St Joseph's who are currently in second place behind Enmore with just one race left in the series! Well done to everyone who was part of this team.

• St Joseph's Gymnasts Reach Area Finals

  A huge well done to our Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2 gymnastics teams who were both victorious in the preliminary rounds of the Key Steps Gymnastics Competition. Competing against teams from Burnham Infants, St Andrew's and Churchfields, I am happy to say that both teams are now through to the Area Finals being held at St Joseph's in Bridgwater later in the month. Well done to everyone who took part and good luck to the children selected for the finals.

  Plans for Emergency Closure of the School

   

  It is the intention to keep the school open unless there are severe weather conditions i.e. snow or insufficient heating.

   

  During spells of extremely wet/snowy weather please send your children with Wellington boots (to be changed in school) and warm clothing.

   

  Should we experience icy or snowy conditions, every effort will be made to clear or de-ice the main entrances and footpaths into the buildings. Once in school pupils will be kept for the whole school day, unless conditions deteriorate.

  It is important that you are aware of the following ways we intend to communicate any school closures to you.

• Road Safety Team Visit the Children

• The Gruffalo comes for Lunch

  There was great excitement in St Joseph's lunch hall today...... the Gruffalo came to bring us some of his tasty treats.

   

  The children enjoyed dishes such Gruffalo Crumble, Mouse on a Slice of Bread, Roasted Fox Sandwiches, Scrambled Snake Jelly and Gruffalo Eyes and Poisonous Warts.

• Swimming Team Finish 4th Place in Sedgemoor Area Finals

  The children of St Joseph's were at it again this afternoon as a team of 20 boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 competed in the Sedgemoor Area Swimming Finals. Having won our preliminary round earlier this term, the children were placed against other winning teams from in and around the Sedgemoor area (there were 6 schools in total). The competition itself was extremely competitive with many of the children either 'County' swimmers or 'Club Academy' swimmers from Bridgwater Swimming Club or Taunton Dean Swimming Club. A 4th place finish was a magnificent result for the children of St Joseph's and they should all be very proud of themselves. They were simply quite magnificent and rounded off an extremely successful half term of sport and competition for the school.

  

• Sports Hall Athletics Team Finish 2nd Place in County Finals

  A huge well done to the 9 boys and 9 girls who competed in the County Sports Hall Athletics School Games Finals held at Richard Huish College on Tuesday. The children were fantastic, running, jumping and throwing their way to success! The level of effort and determination displayed by every member of the team was just incredible. St Joseph's is not the biggest school in the County and to finish second in a County final with a school the size of ours is almost unbelievable. Well done to everyone who was part of this team - You were all amazing!!!

  

• Donation of money raised from KS1 and KS2 Christmas Performances

  The collections made at the KS1 Christmas Nativity and the KS2 Carol Concert raised an amazing £300. We decided this year to donate the money to help refurbish the school/games room on 'Oak Ward' which is part of the children's unit at Musgrove Park Hospital. This is a charity close to the heart of Mel Bax, our gymnastics teacher, whose son Joe was cared for there.

• Swimming Gala Success

  A huge well done to the 18 girls and boys from Year 5 and 6 who represented the school in a local swimming gala. The children were magnificent as they competed against primary schools from Wembdon, Brent Knoll and Wollavington. The children swam with effort, determination and the team spirit was electrifying. Although there were many individual successes, the team finished the competition as outright winners. Well done to everyone who took part.
