Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
With age comes a certain level of responsibility and it was great to see all of our Year 5 children embracing the challenge today as they were trained as Playground Young Leaders! As I am sure you are aware the school has used part of the Sports Premium Funding issued by the government to invest in new playground markings which we hope will continue to promote healthy lifestyles across the school. The markings themselves are just brilliant; bright, vibrant and different! Today all of our Year 5 children were trained as Young Playground Leaders. A morning session was spend learning how to deliver and adapt activities on and around the markings. In the afternoon different classes were brought out giving the young leaders a chance to deliver all that they had been taught. I must say that the Young Leaders were just amazing and I look forward to seeing them in action at lunch times!
The bunting is up, the cupcakes are cooked, the tables are set and we are ready to celebrate the Royal Wedding with our Street party.
What an amazing job, well done Angela and Alison for our celebratory Royal Wedding Street party.
What an amazing start to our day of celebration for the Royal Wedding.
The photograph below of the celebrations assembly this morning show a beautiful sea of red white and blue.
This afternoon our Year 3-4 Tennis player competed in a local Tennis competition held at The Avenue Tennis Club, Burnham-on-Sea. The squad of 16 girls and boys who have been refining their skills in an after school club run by Mr Fisher got to pitch their talents against each other as well as other children from surrounding schools. It was great to see the children playing with such enthusiasm and determination in a competitive situation and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience of each game, whether they won, drew or lost! The weather was beautiful and Barry from the Tennis Club itself was a superstar ensuring that all the children had a good time. And who knows - Maybe the next Wimbledon superstar will come from St Joseph's!!!!!
The First Holy Communion Children looked beautiful on their special day Celebrated at our Lady and English Martyrs Church. All of the children taking part had a job to do. Clea did the reading and Nathan, Phoebe, Charlotte and Kira all doing the bidding prayers. They were word perfect.
We pray for our children who are making their First Holy Communion

Well, what can I say.......Never in my 21 years of teaching at St Joseph's have our Swimming team come so close to winning the overall Burnham-on-Sea swimming gala! The children from Years 3 and 6 who competed this afternoon against 8 other schools from around the area were just quite simply remarkable! We forged ahead in the competition at the half way stage and maintained a slender lead over St Andrew's finishing the afternoon 6 points clear in first place! With two sets of gala results combined we finished with with 271 points, just 8 points behind the overall winners but 80 points in front of third place! We've never been so close!!!!!! Well done everyone who competed in either gala (and a special well done to Matilda, Kitty and Niamh who were all swimming up a year today) - truly amazing.
