  • Pupil and Parent Questionnaire Results

    Fri 15 Apr 2016
Pupil questionnaires: We recently carried out a survey of all pupils asking them different questions about their learning, the results of which are summarised below. I’m sure you will agree that they show a very positive response from the children to what is happening in class.

    KS1 questionnaire Yes
My teacher tells me the learning objective in all my lessons 97%
Adults help me to know how to make my work better 95%
I do lots of interesting things in my lessons 89%
    KS2 Questionnaire Yes
I have opportunities to assess my own work and other people’s work 99%
Adults help me to understand how to use the internet safely 99%
I know I can ask for help when I need it and an adult will help me 99%

Parent questionnaire: This was carried out in December 2015 and 40% of parents responded. Some of the main findings were that:

95% of parents agreed their child is happy in school
93% of parents agreed their child is safe in school

96% of parents agreed their child makes good progress
95% of parents thought their child was well looked after

98% of parents thought their child was well taught
89% of parents believe that the school ensure pupils are well behaved

Areas for improvement: Some parents would like to see greater visibility of senior leaders and governors and to have more information about their child’s progress.

Whilst we are pleased with these results, we are working hard to ensure we make further improvements in the areas that parents have identified as priorities. Thank you to those who took part.
  • Key Stage 1 and 2 Gymnasts make County Finals

    Wed 23 Mar 2016
A huge well done to the 16 children who competed for St Joseph's in a recent area gymnastics competition. Despite exceptionally high competition from across the area, I'm pleased to report that our four teams were magnificent! We were particularly successful in the Year 3-4 competition where we were crowned area winners and in the Year 1-2 competition we finished runners up. This means that two of our teams will now represent both the school and area in the County event on the 15th April. Great effort!
  • Tag Rugby Triumph!

    Wed 23 Mar 2016
A huge well done to our Tag Rugby Team who finished third in the recent area competition. The team, that was made up of girls and boys from Year 6 played some fantastic rugby displaying speed, agility and wonderful teamwork. Despite winning 50% of their games, the team were very unfortunate not to progress to the prestigious County finals. Well done to all of you, Mr Fisher and the school are extremely proud of you all!
  • Basketball Team make County Finals

    Wed 09 Mar 2016
A huge well done to the Basketball team who progressed through to the School Games County Finals yesterday afternoon. The team, comprised of six Year 6 boys competed against teams from BCA, Eastover, North Petherton, Somerset Bridge and Brent Knoll (many of which are twice the size of our school). They played some fantastic basketball, eventually finishing runners up in the competition and earning a spot in the County finals! Well done boys, Mr Fisher and the school are very proud of you.

  • Futsal Success for Year 4 Boys

    Thu 03 Mar 2016
Yesterday afternoon a team of seven Year 4 boys took part in an area futsal tournament. The boys, playing a year under age competed against three other schools (Bridgwater College Academy, Somerset Bridge and Otterhampton). The boys were magnificent, playing with passion and determination and finishing the competition in a creditable third place. A huge well done to you all and I look forward to the competition next year when you will all be older and even more experienced!

  • Boys Football Team Make County Semi-Finals

    Mon 01 Feb 2016

A huge well done to our boys football team who represented not only St Joseph's, but the Sedgemoor area in the County Football Finals held on Friday 29th January at Bridgwater College. Twelve talented teams from around the County were grouped into two pools of six, with the top two teams in each pool progressing to the semi-finals. For the first time in St Joseph's history I'm proud to say that our boys finished second in the group stage of the competition winning three games, drawing one and loosing just the one, enough to earn them a place in the semi-finals. The boys put up a spirited display and narrowly missed out on a place in the final with a 2-0 defeat to a talented team from Portishead. However, all concerned should all be extremely proud of themselves, having achieved a position that no St Joseph's team has managed before! Well done boys! Pictures to follow.

  • Sponsoring Jolaurabli school children

    Mon 04 Jan 2016
As part of the Chaplaincy team's development plan in the spring term, it was agreed with Mrs Mills to sponsor a child from the Jolaurabi School in Kenya. Many of you know that a child has to be sponsored £6 a month to be able to attend the school. I am delighted to be able to announce that we have raised enough money in our funds to sponsor two children and I will hopefully be able to tell you their names and maybe even show you a photograph of them later on this month. Keep a lookout in school and I will send in more details when I have them! In the meantime, don't forget to keep an eye on their website to keep up-to-date with what's going on there: http://www.educatethekids.com/
  • Athletics Team are 5th Best in Somerset!

    Wed 16 Dec 2015
An enormous well done to our Sports Hall Athletics team who finished in 5th place in the Winter School Games County Finals on Tuesday afternoon. This is tremendous achievement, especially for a school of our size! The 18 children from Years 5 and 6 (9 girls and 9 boys) were magnificent, competing with passion, determination and huge amount of ability against the best Primary, Junior and Middle schools in the County. Well done to all concerned and a huge thank you to all those parents who helped with transport to and from the event.
